Morada Coralina ~ Coral Dwelling
Campfire Bay Resort’s Caribbean reef and jungle cabin is named after the fact that the second largest barrier reef in the world, the MesoAmerican Barrier Reef, runs just around 400 meters right in front of her private dock. Smaller outcroppings are just a short swim away.
Roatan, one of the Bay Islands off the coast of Honduras, is not only a snorkeling and diving destination, but with its small mountains, sandy beaches, and diverse peoples, it’s an all around tropical delight.
This Caribbean island is easier to get to than many islands with direct flights on several airlines from several major cities. In Minnesota, where Campfire Bay Resort is located, Sun Country offers a 4ish hour flight (November to mid April only) from Minneapolis (MSP) to Roatan’s international airport (RTB). Then, you just catch a cab or rent a car for just a 45 minute drive to our Caribbean cabin, Morada Coralina.
Stay In Morada Coralina
Our Caribbean reef and jungle cabin is waiting for you! It has two bedrooms with a queen bed in each and one 3/4 bathroom with a spacious shower.
The fully equipped kitchen has a microwave, fridge, and oven. It also has a toaster, blender, coffee maker, and Aeropress for making your own espresso drinks.
The dining and living area has an amazing forest and ocean view if the weather doesn’t cooperate. Or relax and gaze at the sea on the deck in a hammock or lounge chairs, if you don’t want to be on the beach or dock.
There are mangroves and coral reefs to explore right off our dock. A 3 person kayak and snorkeling gear for 3 are available for use and stored in the tuck under garage.
We’d always been interested in owning a cabin in Roatan and April of 2023, while staying close by for a much needed getaway, we saw that this property was for sale at a fair price. We put in an offer and were surprised when it was accepted and even more surprised when it closed only a couple of months later!
Due to how busy we are with Campfire Bay Resort, we thought we’d wait a while to build, but changed our minds when our oldest son expressed the desire to honeymoon there! We found a great builder, and they started building in October of 2023.
We have more stories to tell and things to share about the area, Punta Blanca, the island, and more on our blog.
But to get you started, here’s a list of places you need to visit and things to do in Roatan in under 45 minutes from Morada Coralina.
We can’t wait to share our favorite place in the Caribbean with you! We’ve been vacationing in Roatan for over 15 years and continue to be amazed by the beauty of the area above and below the water. You will be too!
Morada Coralina Location
Our Caribbean Cabin, Morada Coralina, is located on the less touristy, quieter east part of the island of Roatan. We are on the north side, but due to the arch of the island and our position on it, we get gorgeous sunsets. West Bay, on the far west tip of Roatan, boasts one of the most beautiful beaches in the world and is just 23.5mi/39km away. However, because up to five cruise ships a day now land near there, most days that beach is packed, so a day there should be strategically planned. Meanwhile, just 6.5 mi/8km from our little reef and jungle cabin is Camp Bay Beach, which is almost as beautiful, and some days completely empty!
From the airport, just turn right onto the one main road that goes east/west and is known as Carretera Principal and we’re 45 minutes down the road!
Eating Across Roatán
There are many amazing places to stop and grab a bite across Roatán! Two friends and guests of Campfire Bay Resort recently visited and made it their mission to eat all across the island – and not only that, they made us a map as well! Take a peek and see if there’s any that catch your eye, and scroll to the bottom of our Testimonials page to hear all about their stay!
Help Protect Coral Reefs
One of the reasons we built Morada Coralina was to be close to the coral reef and do our part to protect it. We’d love you to join us! While you stay here, consider volunteering with one of the local organizations that do reef clean ups and/or coral restoration. Why?
- Biodiversity Conservation:
- Coral reefs are crucial ecosystems that support a vast array of marine life. Getting involved in coral restoration helps preserve biodiversity and ensures the survival of countless species dependent on coral reefs.
- Climate Change Mitigation:
- Coral reefs act as natural buffers against climate change by absorbing and storing carbon dioxide. Participating in restoration efforts contributes to the overall fight against climate change.
- Economic Importance:
- Coral reefs play a significant role in supporting fisheries, tourism, and coastal protection. Healthy reefs contribute to local economies, providing livelihoods for many communities.
- Scientific Research:
- Coral restoration efforts often involve scientific research and monitoring. Contributing to these initiatives helps scientists better understand coral ecosystems and develop strategies for their conservation.
- Personal Connection to Nature:
- Engaging in coral restoration creates a personal connection to the ocean and nature. It fosters a sense of responsibility for environmental stewardship and a commitment to preserving the planet for future generations.
Participating in coral restoration or clean ups is a proactive step toward ensuring the longevity of these vital ecosystems. By getting involved, individuals contribute to a collective effort to protect and restore coral reefs, fostering a healthier and more resilient marine environment.
